Pip - The Rebel with a Cause

Co-Founder & Wellbeing Coach

Pip qualified as a personal trainer in 2008, she quickly specialised in exercise referral. Unfortunately, after a year of prescribing restrictive nutritional plans and strict workout schedules from ‘indoor-gyms’, Pip started to lose her love for the industry. In 2010 Pip went searching for something else and came across a Bootcamp Franchise led by Daley Thompson (1980 &1984 Olympic Gold medalist) and Kate Staples (Zodiac from the TV programme gladiators).

However, two year in and once again Pip was losing her passion. This time she loved being outside but felt the restrictive nutritional plans and strict workout schedules weren’t empowering her clients - they were just making them dependant on her.

Pip says: Sustainability is really important to me, at the beginning of my career I wasn’t a coach, I was a dictator. This meant my clients weren't thinking for themselves so they weren’t experiencing empowerment or true transformations. I’ve always lived by the philosophy: if you don’t like something - change it. I wasn’t happy so I ended up selling everything; the franchise, my flat, my car, most of my possessions and going travelling with Tom.

On returning Pip got a job working on a public health contract delivering physical activity for adult and child weight management schemes. It was here she qualified as a level 4 obesity and diabetes coach and things started fitting together.

Pip says: Private gyms are brilliant at inspiring people to take that first step but fail to support people once they’ve signed up. On the flip side, public health schemes are incredibly well resourced but fail to attract the people who need it most. We launched DayOne Wellness to blend the best of both worlds, our mission is health equality and we believe by simplifying wellbeing everyone can have the opportunity to live their very best life for the longest.

Tom - The Lifesaver

Co-Founder

Tom’s passion for life is infectious. Aged 18 he left home for Australia, where he discovered the benefits of strength training combined with an outdoor way of life. After a year down under he chased his love for the outdoors to work at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada before spending three months in China teaching English. In 2011 Tom left the UK once again, this time with future co-founder Pip as a companion. After 18 months globetrotting the couple returned home and Tom was appointed as Sports and Enrichment manager for the Hadlow College Group.

Whilst D1 was in its early stages the couple often joked that Tom’s role in the business was to be Pip’s wellbeing coach. Pip says; In the beginning Tom was just involved in the backend of D1 whilst I was running around like a headless chicken! Thankfully Tom has an incredible skill to help me gain perspective and not take life too seriously, without him I would’ve burnt out years ago!

In 2018, an opportunity arose for Tom to apply for his childhood dream of job. 5,500 people applied for just 24 available roles. We’re delighted to announce Tom was one of those 24 and now has a full time role for Kent’s emergency services. When he’s not saving lives you’ll find Tom in workplaces across Kent delivering our employee wellbeing services.

Tom says: Most people struggle to find one job they even like, so I feel incredibly lucky to have two I love!

Sara - The Transformer

Operations Manager & Wellbeing Coach

Sara has over 10 years experience as a personal trainer (and 4 more as a firefighter!) She is a mum to three children and was the co-founder of Burn-It Fitness, a successful personal training company based in Blackheath. In 2017 Sara sold her shares in Burn-It Fitness to be closer to home and find a better work-life balance. Sara was introduced to Pip and Tom through a mutual friend and the duo knew instantly Sara’s experience and expertise was exactly what the business needed to accelerate towards the D1 vision.

Sara says: I’m incredibly proud to say that I have been able to help hundreds of people reach their fitness goals as well as build an amazing team of trainers and bring a community of like-minded people together. I’m excited to be part of the D1 vision and help hundreds more members achieve the sustainable wellbeing they are searching for.

Fun Facts:  In my spare time I love spending time with my family and cocker spaniel, running, sewing, camping, cooking and exploring the world - I lived in Greece for 10 years and used to own a vintage VW Camper called Bluey.

Lou - The Empathetic Listener

Wellbeing Coach based at Southcote

Louise is a mother of three boys, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a volunteer, a housekeeper, a tutor and a dog owner, who herself in the past found it difficult to find time to look after herself.

Through both professional and personal experience she has learnt first hand the vast benefits prioritising her own health and wellbeing has had on not just her life, but the lives of those that matter most to her.

Louise says “I am really fortunate, since working with DayOne Wellness, I’ve witnessed so many clients transform their lives and more importantly, years later still sustain their results and new lifestyle . When I talk to people about the job we do, it sounds so cheesy to say we transform people's lives, but it’s amazing that with the correct support, guidance, accountability and education we can help anyone to become a healthier, happier, leaner, stronger, more confident version of their prior self!

Penny - The +50 Fitspiration

Wellbeing Coach based at Southcote

Penny has always been interested in health and fitness but would never have imagined that at the age of 52 she would be working as a Wellbeing Coach. Penny has 2 grown up children; Ben and Pip (not D1 Pip). She’s worked in nursing, midwifery and health visiting all her life. While her children were growing up she always tried to stay fit and healthy but time constraints, working long hours and being a mum often put a stop to this. Penny’s turning point was when the big 5-0 started to loom.

Penny says: This was a decade I was not looking forward to,  my mum and dad both died at ages 56 and 55. I made a promise to myself that I would be the fittest and healthiest I could be as I entered this decade so started by finding a personal trainer. Before long I was doing things I never imagined I could do….. running half marathons, tough mudders and lifting pretty heavy weights! Above everything though - I felt amazing both physically and emotionally. I knew I needed to share this feeling with others so decided to undertake the course to become a personal trainer. I could say the rest is history, when I came across Day One Wellness I realised they were everything I believed in and was setting out to do. I love being apart of this amazing team, what better feeling could there be than helping others believe in themselves and achieve more than even they knew was possible!

Fun facts: I am a children’s sleep specialist and love sleep especially an afternoon nap if I can get one! I also love doing anything that challenges me. This year I’m starting open water swimming as the team have convinced me to sign up for a triathlon! I love anything water based, sailing, paddle boarding, canoeing but would not claim to be an expert in any of them! I also love a board game and playing cards so if anyone fancies a game just let me know.
